Newcastle United may beat Valencia CF to the signing of Juventus ace Daniele Rugani, according to a tweet from Italian football journalist and transfer guru Alfredo Pedulla.
Indeed, Rugani would arguably be a good signing to make by the Tyneside club, even if he only came on loan for the rest of the 2020/21 term.
The Italy international has a wealth of experience at the highest level, playing in a total of Transfermarkt.
Looking at his stats in Italy’s top flight in the 2019/20 season, Rugani won a rather impressive 4.1 of his duels per match, and also averaged 1.5 clearances and 1.1 interceptions a game (via Sofascore).
At 26 years of age too, the central defender has arguably not quite hit his prime years as of yet, and so he may be able to develop and improve under Steve Bruce at St. James’ Park should the Magpies wish to put in a firm offer to get his signature over the dotted line before the summer window shuts.
However, there may be a slight concern over his lack of experience playing in English football, but members of the Toon Army will be hoping that Rugani could quickly adapt to the pace and physicality of England’s highest division should he make the move to the North East.
Nonetheless, a deal will have to be done sooner rather than later before the market officially closes.
