Alexander-Arnold has been a major target for Real Madrid over the last few years as Los Blancos look to improve on the ageing Dani Carvajal. A potential move has been talked about since then and the Liverpool star is now set for a move finally to the European champions next summer following the end of his contract at Anfield.

has now revealed that Alexander-Arnold has let Liverpool know that he does not plan to stay and extend his contract at Anfield this season. The England international reportedly decided to tell the club in advance that he will not continue as the Reds bosses wanted to find a final resolution to his contract situation before the start of the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old had the option to move to Madrid in the January transfer window for a small transfer fee as Liverpool hoped to make any sort of profit on the full-back's departure. However, he has decided not to do so as he wants to have a proper farewell season at Anfield.
