Everton travel to Anfield on Sunday to face Liverpool in the first Merseyside derby of the season.
The Toffees have not won away at their rivals in 19 years, showing just how difficult their upcoming fixture is likely to be despite their good run of form.
Defender Seamus Coleman, though, is remaining optimistic heading into the game and is urging his team-mates to end the club’s barren record at Anfield.
The Breakdown
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Coleman said: “We need to turn up on Sunday and do our talking on the pitch. This is a massive game for our city and we’ve been on the receiving end too many times, and there’ll be a few tackles going in this weekend but we’re looking forward to playing our game.”
Not just away at Anfield, but at other top grounds in the country, especially of late, Everton have been disappointing. If they are to do something special under Marco Silva, then that needs to change.
That being said, Everton can certainly take confidence from their last outing versus one of the Premier League’s elite.
After defeats away to Arsenal and Manchester United, the Toffees picked up a good point against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in what was a very disciplined performance from Silva’s men.
If they can execute a similar game plan when they make the short trip to Anfield, then supporters may finally be able to put those last 19 years of pain behind them.
