Upon joining the ever formidable PSG in the summer of 2012 just a few short seasons ago, the now 30-year-old Ezequiel Lavezzi was once considered one of the most promising talents of the modern era.
During his spell in Serie A with Napoli, the stocky Argentinean won himself a great many admirers among the European footballing scene for his string of impressive performances alongside the likes of Edinson Cavani and Marek Hamsik at the Stadio San Paolo.
They successfully went down as an effective diamond trio of the Italian game, who have nonetheless since been largely split up by Parisian giants, PSG.
However, as Lavezzi has barely had a chance to thrive in his preferred striking role in Ligue 1 for Laurent Blanc’s current side, the fiery South American has largely drifted out of our collective footballing consciousness somewhat since making the move to the Parc des Princes stadium.

Yet whilst such a statement may be true for the powerful front-man, Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham Hotspur seemingly remain highly interested in the player, hoping to bring the exciting 30-year-old to the Premier League this season.
So then, with the current transfer window perhaps offering the out of sorts no. 22 the chance to redefine himself elsewhere in 2015/16, does Ezequiel Lavezzi ultimately represent the ideal signing for Spurs this summer?
Well, if the forward’s past form is to offer something to go by in this debate, then Lavezzi himself certainly remains a promising investment for any club looking to acquire his services before the transfer window slams shut. Yes, his time in Ligue 1 hasn’t exactly been the most profitable spell by any means, but as a great deal of potential still likely resides in the Argentinean international even at this stage in his career, this is a player that clearly shouldn’t be written off just yet.
When playing to maximum efficiency, Ezequiel Lavezzi really can prove a shrewd entertainer of the crowd, as well as a distinctly composed professional who knows how to get the job done. In somewhat Carlos Tevez-esque style throughout his career, the no. 22 has proven himself a calm finisher in front of goal, someone with intelligent vision in and around the opposition’s penalty box and a willing hustler of defences in the final third.
All of which would serve any manager in the Premier League with a distinctly useful asset going into the 2015/16 campaign. The intense level of competition at PSG has forced Lavezzi to play somewhat away from his preferred position in the French league, meaning we haven’t actually seen the best of the South American’s talents for quite a while now.
As a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic understandably gets priority when it comes to selecting how PSG will line up in the striking department, former Napoli teammate – Edinson Cavani – has also been pushed out on the wing whilst operating at the Parc des Princes, which has be a somewhat failure on PSG’s part to get the very best out of their expensive investments out on the pitch.
In reportedly targeting 30-year-old Ezequiel Lavezzi this summer, Tottenham have therefore found themselves the ideal candidate to lead the line with Harry Kane next season. He shouldn’t cost Spurs too much considering the amount of talent currently on board at PSG, which would likely delight the White Hart Lane faithful seeing as marquee signings have been a bit of a rarity at their club so far this summer.
However, as life in the ever competitive mid-season transfer market is far from straight forward even at the best of times, Tottenham seemingly have an uphill task on their hands in landing Ezequiel Lavezzi now that Manchester United have reportedly thrown their name in the hat.
As Louis van Gaal’s previously nailed on move to sign Barcelona’s Pedro seems to have hit a frustrating snag at this stage in the game, the Red Devils are supposedly after Lavezzi just in case the move to sign their preferred Spaniard remains truly dead in the water. Tottenham’s Argentinean target would nevertheless suit playing at Old Trafford as well as White Hart Lane this term, with the spectacle of representing a club like Manchester United likely to tempt the striker over the lures of north London.
So then, whilst the chance to see Ezequiel Lavezzi turning out for Tottenham Hotspur in 2015/16 would certainly be something to get most Spurs fans well and truly hyped for the new season, such a prospect ultimately seems fairly unlikely if Louis van Gaal decides to turn his interest exclusively towards the powerful South American before the summer transfer window eventually comes to a close.
