Despite Lionel Messi’s heroics, Inter Miami could only manage a come-from-behind draw against the Philadelphia Union at the weekend, extending their winless streak.
The Herons are winless in seven of their last eight matches in all competitions, and former USMNT star Herculez Gomez questioned whether Miami's current form will stand up against elite European opposition in next month's Club World Cup.
“They’re giving up three goals to one of the best teams in MLS, it’s nothing to be ashamed of," Gomez said on Futbol Americas. "But I keep going back to what’s going to happen come summer at the Club World Cup? If they’re struggling right now in Major League Soccer – they’ve not won in the last seven games – so they’ve got to do something and they’ve got to do something quick. Make reinforcements. If not they’re going to embarrass Major League Soccer and Messi in front of the world.”

Inter Miami and Lionel Messi have won just one game in their last eight across all competitions. That run includes five losses and two draws while conceding 23 goals – and scoring just 15. The team has dropped down the table from second place in the Eastern Conference to seventh, with 23 points from 14 league games.
