As reported by The Sun, Aston Villa are interested in signing Cologne attacker Jhon Cordoba.
What’s the story?
Despite having some excellent attacking options at Villa Park already, Steve Bruce is apparently on the hunt for striking talent that can boost their bid to achieve promotion from the English Championship.
The Sun say he is interested in adding Cologne forward Jhon Cordoba, the player who surprised Arsenal at the Emirates recent in the UEFA Europa League with a stunning long-range effort.
Despite that goal, the paper say that the striker has failed to settle at the German club, who could be tempted to sell the player in January.
Bruce is looking for one more attacker after the departure of Ross McCormack and thinks he’ll get the cash to buy one, according to the report.
Rated at £6.3m by Transfermarkt, he wouldn’t come cheap.
What’s his pedigree?
The former Colombian U20 international moved to Europe from his homeland in 2013, signing for La Liga club Espanyol. After a season there, he joined another Spanish side, Granada, before eventually making a move to Germany to sign up with Mainz.
He made headlines there scoring against Bayern Munich, part of a five Bundesliga goal tally before winning his move to Cologne just this June.
His overall record of 24 goals in 107 appearances since his move to Europe isn’t especially impressive, but when you consider the standard of opposition, it shouldn’t dissuade the Villans.
Having plenty of experience at the top level, he would be an exciting addition to the Villa squad for supporters, should the reported move come off.
