According to , Mainoo is minded to reject a new contract and seek an exit from United this summer. The midfielder has yet to agree a new deal with the Red Devils, as he and his representatives are seeking an increase on his £20,000-per-week basic wage. United believe he could still be convinced to extend his terms but he would be open to a move abroad.

United would want to receive a fee of around £70 million ($90m) for the midfielder, and he has been mentioned as a possible target for Chelsea, although he is not said to be willing to join another Premier League club. No side has yet entered into negotiations with United over a deal.
