Fulham manager Martin Jol and striker Andy Johnson have spoken of their frustration at not capitalising on chances against Twente in the Europa League, and having to make do with a point in a 1-1 draw.
Johnson fired the Cottagers into a 19th minute lead after a defensive mistake by the Eredivisie outfit, but Luuk de Jong equalised just before half time.
Jol was particularly annoyed by the English side’s lack of ruthlessness in front of goal, as they had chances to extend their lead before the Dutch team’s goal.
“In the first half we should have been two or three up. Of course they’re a good team but when you put them under that sort of pressure you should be winning,” he told Sky Sports.
“We still wanted to play with four forward players but if you don’t put the goals away you get frustrated and put pressure on yourself. The only thing now is that we have to put the chances away.”
Former England striker Johnson is happy to be fit and scoring goals again, but admits that his side should have probably won all three points.
“We started well and played well enough to come away with the points so I think we’re disappointed, but it’s a long slog and to get a point early on (in the group) is pleasing.
“I missed out on being in the final (in 2010) and I played in the early games last season, so I’m delighted to be fit now and scoring goals, and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead,” he concluded.
Fulham now must pick themselves up for the visit of Manchester City at the weekend and look to pick up points, as they have yet to win a game in the league this term.
