Former Chelsea and France winger Florent Malouda has told Wrexham to follow Brentford's example as they target a historic promotion to the Premier League. Brentford were promoted to the Premier League in 2021 and have remained in the division ever since, with former manager Thomas Frank a pivotal part of their consistency in the top flight. Now, Malouda has claimed the Bees are the perfect example for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's side to follow.
WHAT MALOUDA SAID
Malouda, speaking on behalf of bet365 and their launch of the free-to-play Club World Championship Tournament Predictor game, said: “It's a wonderful success story, especially when you consider people coming from Hollywood, getting involved in football, and being so successful so quickly. There is something happening there.
“I hope the story continues and that they get promoted to the Premier League. Of course, it's more challenging now to step up from Championship to Premier League, but it has been done in the past.
“Look at teams like Brentford, they got promoted and have managed to stay in the Premier League. I hope that happens for Wrexham, they have a glamourised story around the club and I hope they make a movie one day.
“They’ll shoot a movie based on the true story of Wrexham.”
